Unique “Saree Yoga” Session Celebrates Yoga and Indian Heritage at the Consulate General of India, Birmingham - 5th June, 2026

As part of the International Day of Yoga celebrations, the Consulate General of India, Birmingham hosted an exclusive, unique, and first-of-its-kind “Saree Yoga” session, highlighting the seamless integration of yoga into everyday life and celebrating the elegance and versatility of India’s traditional attire on 5th June, 2026.

Organised in association with Anupama Wellness, the session demonstrated how yoga can be practised comfortably without the need for specialised clothing. Participants performed a range of yoga postures in sarees, showcasing ease of movement, grace, and adaptability, while reinforcing the message that yoga is truly accessible to all.

The initiative particularly emphasised the relevance of yoga in the daily lives of women managing household responsibilities, underscoring that well-being and fitness can be maintained through simple, practical incorporation of yoga into routine life while embracing traditional attire.

The core message of the event was clear and powerful: yoga does not require a specific outfit—it is a way of life that can be practised anytime, anywhere, and in any clothing.
