Consul General of India in Birmingham, Dr. Venkatachalam Murugan, joined the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, the Mayor of Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council, and other distinguished dignitaries to inaugurate the Rath Yatra festival organised by ISKCON at Birmingham New Street on 5 July 2026.
Marking the commencement of the celebrations, the dignitaries ceremonially pulled the divine chariot of Lord Jagannath, symbolising devotion, unity, and the timeless spiritual traditions associated with the annual Rath Yatra.
On the auspicious occasion of the Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra, the Consul General paid homage to Lord Jagannath and conveyed his warm greetings and best wishes to all devotees and members of the Indian diaspora celebrating the festival. He highlighted the significance of Rath Yatra as a celebration of faith, inclusivity, and harmony, bringing together people from diverse communities in a spirit of devotion and cultural unity.
