The Consulate General of India, Birmingham celebrated Vaisakhi with great grandeur and enthusiasm at Consulate General of India, Birmingham. The celebrations featured vibrant music, dance performances, songs, and speeches, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and festive spirit of the Punjabi community.

Speaking on the occasion, Consul General Dr Venkatachalam Murugan highlighted the significance of harvest festivals celebrated across India under different names and traditions. He lauded the immense contributions of the Punjabi diaspora, noting that the Midlands is home to one of the largest Punjabi communities outside India. The Consul General also outlined various Government of India initiatives for the diaspora and shared information on how community members could benefit from these programmes.

Community speakers emphasised the cultural and historical relevance of Vaisakhi and appreciated the continued efforts of the Government of India in engaging with and supporting the Punjabi community abroad.

The celebrations were marked by energetic Bhangra performances, Punjabi folk songs, and the vibrant beats of the dhol, adding to the festive atmosphere of the event.

Members of the Sikh and Punjabi diaspora from across the Midlands and the North attended the celebrations, reflecting the strong and vibrant community presence in the region.
