Over 250 enthusiastic participants from the Midlands gathered at the iconic Old Joe University of Birmingham for the #ViksitBharatRun, a 2.5-mile journey from the iconic Old Joe, University of Birmingham to Broad Street’s Golden Boys statue, celebrating India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047 and the deepening India–UK partnership. The scenic Canal Walk became a powerful symbol of India’s inspiring journey of progress and innovation, uniting the diaspora and wider community in the shared spirit of a Viksit Bharat . Consul General Dr Venkatachalam Murugan led the celebrations and highlighted the rise of India on the world stage. It signifies the Amrit Kaal, the Era of Elixir – Hon’ble PM Sri Narendra Modi’s vision for New India in the next 25 years. It aims at restructure as fragments of Indian economy, through rapid growth, better living conditions for all. Infrastructure, technological advancements and reawakening World’s trust in India. During this special fortnight, ministries, government bodies and communities across India and abroad come together to serve society, strengthen bonds and promote shared responsibility. A key highlight this year is the Viksit Bharat Run, organised across 125 global locations with the theme “Run to Serve the Nation,” offering an opportunity to showcase India’s achievements, promote unity and amplify global partnerships while creating spaces for youth engagement, leadership development and diaspora participation. Leaders and community representatives—including Simon Foster (Police & Crime Commissioner), Prof Mark Lee (DPVC–India, University of Birmingham), Prof Kiran Patel (Chief Medical Officer, University Hospitals Birmingham), Inspector Ellis Turner (Neighbourhood Policing), Ravi Katamaneni (Doctors’ Association), Sailender Kundal (Uttarakhand community), Mr Parvesh Shukla (NRI Head, Rejoice Health Foundation International & Convern Sky Foundation), Dharm Dutt (Geeta Bhawan) and Mohameed Kareen (Dawoodi Bohra Community)—joined to celebrate the spirit of Seva and Atmanirbhar Bharat, taking pride in India’s heritage and strengthening bonds with fellow Indians globally. As part of this global movement across 75+ cities worldwide, the Birmingham event showcased the rise of a New India, inspiring collective action and reinforcing the message: Run with purpose, celebrate the journey, and pledge for a Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
