Business Reception at Leicester City Council - 29th April, 2025

On April 29, 2025, Consul General Dr. Venkatachalam Murugan visited the Lord Mayor’s Parlour in Leicester, where he met with the Lord Mayor Councillor Bhupen Dave, to discuss key areas of cooperation. Consul General underscored Leicester’s vital role in fostering India–UK relations, noting that 34.3% of the city's population is of Indian origin — representing 6.6% of all Indians living in the UK.

The visit was followed by an engaging Business Reception hosted at Leicester City Council. The event brought together City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby, Leicestershire Police and Crime Commissioner Rupert Matthews, Gina Samuel-Richards, Under Sheriff Leicester City Council, and members of the local business community. Discussions focused on strengthening Leicester–India collaboration across sectors.

Consul General Dr. Venkatachalam Murugan highlighted several ongoing collaborations and outlined a wide range of consular and community services provided by India in UK (Consulate General of India, Birmingham). More than 30 attendees, representing diverse communities and business organisations, participated in the event.

The City Mayor emphasized the pivotal role of the Indian diaspora in Leicester's development and stressed the importance of deepening ties and partnerships with India. The event reflected the shared commitment to building stronger India–UK connections through local engagement and mutual cooperation.
