Consul General Dr Venkatachalam Murugan hosted an exclusive dinner in honour of newly elected Indian-origin Councillors from across the Midlands, celebrating their electoral success and contributions to public life in the United Kingdom.

Among those felicitated were Councillor Sardul Marwa, Mayor of Solihull, and Councillor Dr Nitish Raut, Mayor of Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council, both of whom were re-elected and subsequently assumed mayoral offices in their respective towns.

During the occasion, the Consul General congratulated all the Councillors on their electoral achievements and commended their commitment to public service. He assured them of the Consulate’s continued support and cooperation in all areas of mutual interest.

Dr Murugan also highlighted the importance of collaborative engagement between local representatives and the Indian diaspora community, emphasising that such partnerships play a vital role in promoting the welfare and advancement of the community while further strengthening ties between India and local authorities across the United Kingdom.
