Curtain Raiser Event of the 12th International Day of Yoga on 28th May 2026

Consulate General of India, Birmingham celebrated the Curtain Raiser Event of the 12th International Day of Yoga on 28th May 2026 with great enthusiasm and active participation from dignitaries, wellness experts, and community organisations. A unique Yogasana exhibition under Yoga Mahotsav, showcasing various yoga postures and their benefits, was inaugurated by the Consul General of Romania, Madam Mihaela Savu, who was among the distinguished guests present alongside Deputy Lieutenants and other eminent dignitaries. During the event, a special booklet highlighting a series of yoga-related activities to be organised by the Consulate in collaboration with various partners, as well as programmes planned across the Midlands and North, was also launched.

The event also highlighted the benefits of Ayurveda, including dedicated Ayurveda booths planned for the main International Day of Yoga celebration at Victoria Square, Birmingham. Consul General Dr. Venkatachalam Murugan spoke about the various initiatives of the Government of India to promote yoga globally and encouraged everyone to incorporate yoga into their daily lives. Madam Mihaela Savu appreciated the initiative, emphasising the importance of adopting yoga and wellness practices within communities, and highlighted this year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.”
