Welcome Reception for the Newly arrived Indian Students to Midlands & North - 19th November, 2025:

On 19 November 2025, the India in UK (Consulate General of India, Birmingham) hosted the Edu-Ex Conference, extending a warm welcome to newly arrived Indian students across the Midlands and the North of England. The event, held as part of the Consulate’s ongoing student engagement outreach, aimed to support young Indian nationals as they transition to academic and social life in the United Kingdom.

Consul General Dr. Venkatachalam Murugan addressed the gathering, emphasising the wealth of opportunities available in the UK and assuring the Consulate’s continued support to students throughout their academic journey. He encouraged attendees to stay connected with the Consulate and with the larger Indian community network for guidance, safety, and cultural belonging.

The evening featured two highly informative sessions:

• Living in the UK: Challenges & The Way Forward
• Connecting Education, Work & Student Welfare

Speakers and panelists provided practical advice on legal responsibilities, career planning, financial matters, immigration compliance, safeguarding regulations, and mental health resources. Students expressed appreciation for the clarity and helpfulness of these discussions, which equipped them with essential knowledge for navigating life in the UK.

The educational segments were complemented by an engaging cultural programme, transforming the evening into a vibrant celebration of community spirit. Students enjoyed lively entertainment including Dhol rhythms, Bollywood dance performances, and popular Indian songs, offering a comforting sense of familiarity and belonging — truly creating a “home away from home”.

The Edu-Ex Conference successfully blended practical learning with cultural warmth, reinforcing the Consulate’s commitment to supporting Indian students—not just as professionals-in-training, but as valued members of the broader Indian diaspora in the UK.
