The Consul General Dr Venkatachalam Murugan hoisted the Tricolour at the Consulate General of India, Birmingham, to mark India’s 79th Independence Day, in the presence of dignitaries, community members, and friends of India. The ceremony commenced with the National Anthem, followed by the Consul General reading out the Hon’ble President of India’s Independence Day message to the communities and diaspora abroad, in the august presence of the Lord-Lieutenant of West Midlands, Mr Derrick Anderson CBE, Members of Parliament, Governors, Deputy Lieutenants, Councillors, academicians, OBE & MBE recipients, and other distinguished leaders.
More than 180 people gathered to witness the celebration, which featured speeches from Member of Parliament Mr Baggy Shankar, the Lord-Lieutenant Mr Derrick Anderson CBE, the Consul General of Romania Ms Mihaela Savu, and other dignitaries. The programme concluded with vibrant cultural performances and media interactions, highlighting India’s rich traditions and heritage. The event was a true celebration of unity, pride, and patriotism, bringing together communities in a memorable display of friendship and shared values.
