4.1 For renewal of OCI card:- The OCI cardholder may apply for renewal of OCI card through OCI Miscellaneous services option on OCI website.

  • Present valid Passport (with minimum 6 months validity)
  • Old Foreign passport
  • OCI card
  • Employment proof / Student Id card/ letter on the company letterhead if owning business. (mandatory for adult applicants)
  • Address proof (Copy of the electricity/telephone/Council tax bill/ lease agreement in own/parents/spouse name)
  • Registered Marriage certificate and spouse passport copy, if applicable
  • Any other document as applicable such as naturalisation/ registration certificate in case of change of nationality, change of appearance affidavit etc.
  • If the application is under lost category, a loss report/ a copy of the complaint lodged with Police authorities needs to be submitted alongwith the application, and the applicant may also be called for an interview at the Consulate alongwith the original Indian origin documents on the basis of which OCI was obtained.
  • Enrolled deed poll in case of any name change or Notary Public Affidavit for name discrepancies in different documents, if applicable (This is not applicable in case of surname change due to marriage. However, if there is change in name other than surname, enrolled deed poll/ Notary Public Affidavit will be required).
  • Naturalization/Registration certificate of the current nationality, if there is change in nationality.
  • Parents’ consent letter if applicant is a minor,
  • xii. In the case of those who have been issued OCI card under ‘foreign spouse’ category, may also be called for a joint interview alongwith their spouse.

è Please note that it is mandatory to renew OCI once when a new passport is issued after crossing the age of 20 years. For this purpose, the OCI cardholder has to apply for renewal of OCI card as mentioned above.

4.2 Online update of New Passport details:-

After obtaining a new passport, OCI cardholder may apply for updation of the new passport details through OCI Miscellaneous services (gratis service) option on OCI website.

An OCI Cardholder may upload a copy of the new passport containing the photo of the passport holder and also a latest photo & signature on the online system under OCI Miscellaneous Services each time a new passport is issued.

These documents may be uploaded by the OCI Cardholder within three months)of the receipt of the new passport. This service is on gratis (free of charge) basis and is done online. In this case, a new OCI card is not issued. Only, the new passport details are updated online in OCI records and the OCI cardholder may use the existing OCI card for travel to India.

However, if the application for update of passport details is submitted after three months of issue of the new passport, there is a fee of GP 23/- (excluding VFS charges). In such cases, applicants may apply for renewal of physical OCI card as mentioned in para 7.1 above.

The normal processing time for update of passport details is 35-40 days after acknowledgement of the application.

There will be no restriction on the OCI Cardholder to travel to/ from India during the period from the date of issue of new passport till the date of final acknowledgement of his/ her documents in the online system. However, it advised to carry your old passport (which is linked to the OCI card) alongwith the OCI card and new passport to avoid any hassle during the journey.

In the case of those who have been registered as OCI Cardholder under ‘foreign spouse’ category, the OCI Cardholder shall upload a copy of the new passport containing the photo of the passport holder and also a latest photo on the online system under OCI Miscellaneous Services each time a new passport is issued. In such cases, the OCI Cardholder and his/ her Indian spouse or OCI Cardholder spouse will have to give a declaration that their marriage is still subsisting. Copy of the Indian passport of the Indian spouse/ passport and OCI Card of the OCI Cardholder spouse shall also be uploaded in such cases. These documents may be uploaded by the OCI Cardholder foreigner spouse within three months of receipt of his/ her new passport. After three months, the service will be charged and the OCI Cardholder foreigner spouse may apply for renewal of physical OCI card as mentioned in para 7.1 above
