Emergency Certificate (EC)

An Emergency Certificate can be issued to an Indian national for one-way travel to India in case of non-availability of a valid passport (due to loss, damage, or expiry) and where a new passport cannot be issued immediately.

The Emergency Certificate is issued after the cancellation of the existing passport. On arrival in India, the holder must contact the concerned Passport Issuing Authority for the issuance of a new passport.

Standard Documents Required:

  • Duly completed and printed application form: Global Passport Seva Portal
  • Current Passport in original along with self-attested copies of first (personal particulars), last (address) pages, and any other endorsement/visa pages.
  • Self-attested copy of UK Entry visa and UK eVisa (immigration status).
  • Annexure E.
  • Undertaking where Passport is withheld/kept with UK Home Office (if applicable).
  • For Minor Applicants: Please refer to the relevant Passport services section for additional documents such as Annexure D, Annexure C, and Passport/Visa copies of parents.

Additional Documents for Lost or Stolen Passports:

In addition to the standard documents mentioned above, the following are required:

  • Police Report: Online police report in respect of the lost passport (met.police.uk).
  • Personal Letter: A letter addressed to the Passport Officer explaining the circumstances under which the passport was lost, stolen, or damaged.
  • Annexure F: Available at passportindia.gov.in/psp/Annexures.
