Emergency Visa Information

1. When can you apply for Emergency Visa

In extreme genuine emergency cases, like death or serious illness of an immediate family member (spouse, father, mother, children, children’s spouse, grandchildren or their spouses, sibling or their spouse) subject to providing supporting documents as evidence from India, like death certificate/ hospital certificate duly stamped, and proof of relationship.

2. Procedure for submitting application for emergency visa:

  • Applications for visa should be filled online via link www.indianvisaonline.gov.in for Regular/Paper Visa by choosing UK-Birmingham as your Indian Mission/Office and Visa Type as Entry Visa (and NOT Tourist Visa).
  • After filling an online application, the application has to be submitted in person at the Consulate General of India, Birmingham, from 1000 hrs to 1700 hours on any working day. During out of office hours, members of public can contact the Consulate General of India, Birmingham at +44-(0)-74245 45269 by sending a whatsapp with the required documents. The concerned officer will contact asap.
  • Applicants are advised to bring printed and signed application form, passport (with minimum 6 months’ validity and 2 blank pages), 2 photographs (50mmx50mm), supporting documents and visa fee of £200.00.

3. Document Requirements:

Standard Requirements (All Applicants)

  • Regular/Paper Visa Application Form: Completed online at www.indianvisaonline.gov.in with UK–Birmingham selected as the mission and Visa Type – Entry Visa. Must be printed and signed.
  • Photograph: One recent 2 × 2 inch passport-size color photograph affixed to the form.
  • Passport: Current foreign passport valid for at least six months with a minimum of two blank pages.
  • UK Residence Proof: UK residence permit (e-Visa & share code if applicable) and a recent utility bill as proof of address.
  • Previous Visas: Copies of any previous Indian visas (regular or e-Visas).
  • Emergency Evidence: Documentary proof of the emergency (e.g., stamped hospital letter confirming medical condition or death certificate).
  • Birth Certificate: Full version birth certificate.

Additional Requirements (If Applicable)

  • Applicants of Indian Origin: Surrender Certificate and the first and last pages of the cancelled Indian passport.
  • Minor Applicants (Below 16 Years):
    • Consent Form: Duly signed by both parents.
    • Parental Documents: Self-attested copies of both parents’ passports and their marriage certificate.
    • Legal Custody: A court custody order if the parents are legally separated.

It may be noted that Emergency Visa will be granted subject to submission of complete documentation and the Consulate may seek additional documentation in certain cases. Applicants are also advised not to finalise their travel arrangements prior to issuance of visa.

Fee: Exact amount is payable in cash at the Consulate.

(i) UK nationals: £200.00 (Visa fee £127.00 + consular surcharge £3 + emergency visa fee £70.00).
(ii) Non-UK nationals: £136.00 (Visa fee £63.00 + consular surcharge £3 + emergency visa fee £70.00)
(iii) Ukraine nationals: £137.00 (Visa fee £67.00 + consular surcharge £3 + emergency visa fee £67.00).
(iv) Mozambique nationals:
• Single entry urgent: 121.00 (Visa fee £118.00 + consular surcharge £3).
• Multiple entry urgent: 238.00 (Visa fee £235.00 + consular surcharge £3).
• All other type of visa except transit and student up to 6 months in emergency: 238.00 (Visa fee £235.00 + consular surcharge £3).
