As part of the year long celebrations of the 350th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the Consulate General of India, Birmingham in association with University of Leeds launched a photo exhibition on the ‘Life & Philosophy of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’ at The Great Hall, University of Leeds on 21th March, 2018. This was the third display venue of the photo-exhibition which was earlier displayed at the University of Wolverhampton & University of Birmingham.
Dr. Surender Munjal, Director James E. Lynch India and South Asia Business Centre, Centre for International Business, University of Leeds welcomed the guests. Mr. S.M. Chakraborty, Consul & Head of Chancery, Consulate General of India, Birmingham spoke about the various events organised by the Consulate as part of the year-long celebrations of the Prakash Parv and about the relevance of Guruji’s message today. Mr. Raminder Singh, Deputy Lieutenant, West Yorkshire spoke about various aspects of the revered tenth Guru’s life touching upon the historical context, creation of the Khalsa Panth & initiation of the Panj Pyaras, achievement & Legacy of Guru Gobind Singh. The final speaker of the event Dr. Praneet Kaur, PhD from the University of Northampton spoke about the early life and writings of Guru Gobind Singh Ji including details about his own compositions, Zafarnama etc.
The commemorative stamp issued by the Government of India in January 2017, on the occasion of the 350th Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, specially obtained from the National Philatelic Museum, New Delhi, India was distributed to the attendees along with specially printed booklets which replicated all panels of the original photo-exhibition. This was followed by viewing of the Photo exhibition.
The event was attended by more than 50 guests. Prominent members of the Sikh community, other religious communities / representative of religious studies from University and from a wide array of sectors, academics and a large number of students attended the event. A memento with the framed picture of Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) Amritsar was presented by Mr. S.M. Chakraborty, Consul & Head of Chancery to Dr. Surender Munjal, Associate Professor of International Business, Director, James E. Lynch India and South Asia Business Centre, Centre for International Business, University of Leeds on the occasion of the 350th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
