High Commissioner H.E. Mr. Y.K.Sinha and Madam Girija Sinha were the Chief Guests at a play entitled "The Wondrous Apostle- Guru Gobind Singh Ji” on the evening of October 13, 2017. It was organised as part of the year-long celebrations on the 350th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji- being held all over the world. It was organised by the Consulate General of India, Birmingham with support of the Ministry of Culture, Government of India at the "Ruddock Performing Arts Centre", King Edward's School Birmingham. With an aim to spread the message of the revered tenth Sikh Guru to the youth- children from local schools were invited and more than 60 young school students formed a part of the 250 strong audience.

At the end of the programme, the High Commissioner spoke about the importance of dissemination of India’s rich cultural heritage among the youth and congratulated the 'Punjabi Theatre Academy' for their impressive performance. The High Commissioner also mentioned about the forthcoming Photo Exhibition on Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji which is being prepared partly by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and which will be supported by the Council of Sikh Gurdwaras, Birmingham and the Nishkam Center. The photo exhibition will be taken to various cities of the Midlands and North England region starting this December 2017.

As a token of appreciation, the High Commissioner presented the Director of the 'Punjabi Theatre Academy' with a copy of ‘Guru Granth Sahib: The Guru Eternal’ by noted historian Dr. Mohinder Singh. He also presented the Head Mistress of the King Edward VI Girl's School with a specially made souvenir with the picture of Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple) Amritsar, as a token of appreciation.

The Consul General of India, Birmingham, Dr. Aman Puri, while thanking the High Commissioner and Mrs. Girija Sinha for gracing the occasion, also mentioned that the Consulate had earlier organised a Lecture Series on the 'Life and Philosophy' of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji this year and had also celebrated the first ever 'Vaisakhi' at the Birmingham Town Hall in April this year as a part of the year-long celebrations of the 350th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Gobind Singh ji. He also mentioned that under the visionary leadership of High Commissioner Sinha, the Government of India's offices in London, Birmingham and Edinburgh are organising the largest celebrations, outside India, to commemorate the 350th Birth Anniversary of the revered tenth Sikh Guru Ji. He also thanked the Indian community of Midlands and North England for supporting the Government initiatives.

The invitees on this occasion included Bhai Sahib Dr. Mohinder Singh, OBE, KSG, Chairman, Guru Nanak Nishkam Sewa Jatha, Sardar Amrick Singh Ubhi, Chairman, Council of Sikh Gurudwaras, Birmingham, Mr. Harmohinder Singh Bhatia, Chairman, Sandwell Confederation of Indians and representatives from various religious organisations, Deputy Lieutenants, academics students and parents.
