Consulate General of India, Birmingham in association with Indian community organised the 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) celebrations on January 8, 2017 in Birmingham.High Commissioner of India to UK HE Shri Y K Sinha led the celebrations and more than 100 prominent NRI's/PIO's such as Baroness Sandip Verma, former Minister and Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awardee (2011), Dame Asha Khemka, Principal and Chief Executive, West Nottinghamshire College, Dr. Satya Sharma, Deputy Lieutenant, representing Lord Lieutenant for West Midlands,Councillor Ramesh Srivastava, Former Mayor,Rugby and Chair,British Organisation for People of Asian Origin(BOPA),Shri Harmohinder Singh Bhatia, Chairman, Sandwell Confederation of Indians and Secretary, Sant Nirankari Mission,Shri Hamid Malik,Chairman,Federation of Indian Muslim Organisations,Consul General J K Sharma,CGI officials and leaders of Indian community from Birmingham, Leicester, Bradford,Leamington Spa, Coventry, Nottingham, Wolverhampton, Rugby, Sandwell etc participated in the celebrations. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Modi's inaugural address at the 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas(PBD) Convention in Bengaluru was screened.
High Commissioner conveyed his greetings to NRI/PIO's in UK and praised their outstanding contribution to ever increasing India - UK relations. High Commissioner highlighted the programmes and initiatives of Government of India led by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Modi e.g. Make in India, Skill India, Start-Up India, Smart Cities Project, Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, Namami Gange etc and invited wide spread participation of NRI/PIO's. He thanked the Indian Community for participating in the PBD celebrations in large numbers and added that High Commission in London and the Consulates in Birmingham and Edinburgh would deepen their engagement with the Indian diaspora.
