1. Foreign nationals of Indian origin seeking PIO or OCI or First time visa service and who cannot surrender or adduce original Indian Passports (their own or of their parents/grand parents) may have to produce adequate other primary and/or secondary evidence in support of their Indian origin before service ban be extended.

DOCUMENTS ACCEPTABLE AS PRIMARY EVIDENCE

  1. “Nativity Certificate” issued by a District Magistrate. Applicants can download the application form (click here to download) and apply directly to the concerned District Magistrate who after establishing the applicant’s Indian nativity at village or Tehsil or District or at Urban level may issue a Nativity Certificate.
  2. “Domicile Certificate” issued by an Indian authority under law.
  3. Documents issued by a lawful Indian authority such as `birth certificate’, `School Leaving Certificate’, certificates showing attainment of education degrees in India, marriage certificate, holding bank accounts, title deeds of properties etc.

DOCUMENTS ACCEPTABLE AS SECONDARY EVIDENCE

Documents issued outside India by or under the authority of a foreign sovereign government such as

  1. Passport of a foreign country indicating the place of birth of the applicant in India.
  2. Any other document such as marriage certificate, birth registration, naturalisation, citizenship registration etc. proving the Indian origin
