As part of the year long celebrations of the 350th Birth Anniversary of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the Consulate General of India, Birmingham in association with University of Wolverhampton launched a photo exhibition on the ‘Life & Philosophy of Sri Guru Gobind Singhji’ at University of Wolverhampton on 20th February, 2018.
Poems & speeches reflecting the uniqueness of the Sikh religion and its exalted position among the world religions were delivered. Dr. Opinderjit Kaur Takhar, Director of the soon to be launched Centre for Sikh and Panjabi Studies, University of Wolverhampton, Dr. Aman Puri, Consul General of India, Birmingham spoke about the relevance of Guruji’s message today. Ms. Emma Bull, Director of Organisational Development, University of Wolverhampton spoke on behalf of University of Wolverhampton about its collaborative ventures with India.
Poems on Sikhism were recited by Giani Shyam Singh ji, a renowned Sikh Pathi which were lauded by all attendees. Commemorative stamp issued on the occasion of the 350th Prakash Utsav of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, specially obtained from the National Philatelic Museum, New Delhi, India was distributed to the attendees. This was followed by viewing of the Photo exhibition.
The event was attended by more than 80 guests. Prominent members of the Sikh community, other religious communities / representative of religious studies from University and from a wide array of sectors, academics and students attended the event. A small token of appreciation was presented by Dr. Aman Puri, Consul General of India, Birmingham to Dr. Opinderjit Kaur Takhar, University of Wolverhampton, for her extraordinary contributions to the promotion of Sikh & Punjabi Studies in United Kingdom.
