Consulate General of India, Birmingham celebrated India's 70th Independence Day on August 15 with traditional fervour and enthusiasm at the Chancery premises. The celebrations started with hoisting of National Flag by Consul General followed by singing of the national anthem. Consul General read out the address of Hon'ble President to the Nation and a short film highlighting 70 initiatives of Hon'ble Prime Minister was screened. As part of the celebrations, a cultural programme was organised, which included performance of dances by the students of Chitralekha Dance Academy, singing of patriotic songs by several accomplished singers, recitation of patriotic poem and performances of Dhol and Bhangra.

 
More than 200 members of British and Indian community and the Consulate officials joined the celebrations including dignitaries e.g. Baroness Sandip Verma, Councillor Carl Rice, Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Col George Marsh, Acting Lord Lieutenant of West Midlands, Dame Asha Khemka, Shri Resham Singh Sandhu, Dy Lieutenant, Dr Satya Sharma, Dy Lieutenant, Shri Paul Sabhapathy, Former Lord Lieutenant, and several city councillors from Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Wolverhampton etc.  Consul General presented the certificates to all the performers.
